In letter #4, I talked about things you should keep in mind before publishing your book. Well, when your manuscript is ready to go out there and beautify the world (and you are absolutely sure about it), you may start thinking how to do it, and the answer is quite simple: Amazon. This platform will allow you to sell your book worldwide, and the right way to do it is through Create Space; you can set up a free account and follow simple instructions to have your book ready. You even have the option to hire professional services at Create Space to have a really good looking, professional cover.
When I found out about Amazon and Create Space, I was completely astonished, because in my country is very hard to publish a book with independent editors, so I was absolutely thrilled about having my poetry book El Ángulo Abierto de la Noche (The open angle of the night) available in the biggest plaftorm of bookselling, and the best part was that I was able to order copies at a reasonable price for recitals and events. Before submitting my manuscript to the review process of Create Space, I made sure there were no mistakes, and I had to do it all by myself; I spent many nights without sleeping at all, completely obsessed by the idea of perfection. My poetry book included a series of self-portraits at the beach in the night; I had learnt artistic photography at an intermediate level and had a good camera and tripod, so, with the help of my parents, I could succeed in taking nice pictures. I attach some of them here:
I had fulfilled one of my precious dreams, and I was widely proud of myself. Also, it was quite stimulating that colleague and internationally awarded poet Bethoven Medina would write the prologue. I felt so grateful.
There was also an interview poet Katherine Medina made me regarding this beloved poetry book.
Now, I shall translate some verses from the book for you to enjoy:
I made the night,
swinging in the emptiness
I wrote our names.
no longer exists
in the memory of dancing wolves,
in this obscure afternoon.
(From the poem I made the night)
I had a few sales and I’m still trying to find time to do a proper marketing campaign for the book, because it makes no sense to write a book If nobody is going to read it, right?
I used all the free tools I found to create a beautiful book. What are you waiting for? Go and do it yourself, your will experiment pleasures that are rarelly found.
I hope you enjoyed this letter, hopefully you shall find inspiration and will create a wonderful book in a few days. Just don’t forget, that perfection is an oasis we all struggle to pursue, the truth is that we can always create better books, better days, better poems and stories, better lives. We are limitless, and no matter what people say, we are here to fulfill our dreams, and find happiness. I’ll be delighted to know about your thoughts and comments, please leave them below and I shall feel accompanied by your words.
